After learning more about the shows we watch, we tried to take their tips including Jackson Galaxy, You Must Love Cats and make our house more cat friendly. Sammie started to play with the little mice, bat them around and get them caught on her claws. We would leave them in certain places.
We took her to get her ears cleaned and checked and her nails clipped at the vet every 8 weeks or so. It was stressful to do this, as we still were not picking her up and it was hard to catch her.
We were having times where she wanted to be pet for hours. She would lie down even more.
One day she showed up on the guest bed/office. So I covered it with a cover she could do whatever she wanted to with and bought an enclosed soft house with a triangle door opening. She checked it out and loved it.
This would work in my office and she would sleep away most of the day, groom on the mat on the floor and loved to be pet on the bed by my husband. But, not me! This is not my place, it is on the little stool in the dining room, that is my place. She definitely let us know. A few scratches on my arms and her body language and moving away from me, made it loud and clear.
She really favored my husband. He was her person. Even when I was petting her from my stool, if he came near the guest bed, she would leave me to go and jump on the bed and be with him and have him pet her.
I asked him to pick her up, but he did not want to upset her. I think she was getting spoiled and not exposing her to being held.
We never saw her drink water, but the vet said she got the water from her wet food. The allergist said for me not to get another cat and not to have them sleep with me. So far we are good. We are all adjusting.
We bought a cat tree and tried some more toys. She is a bush dweller and never used it. Maybe when I sprayed her with the water bottle she no longer wanted to climb. Or, perhaps it is because of her eye. I could wonder forever.
We would open our small screen area and she loved to smell the air. Her head would turn and she would smell. She also liked looking out the front door when it was not winter, that is.
We put a cat tree by the window and I was able to pick her up once and put her on it so she would look out the window, but she wouldn’t. We wanted to give her cat TV so she could watch outside. But I guess not for Sammie. We bought looping videos we could play on an old laptop. She didn’t care about that. She did like piano and classical music. This I learned through my research on what they would like. We wanted to keep her active and interested and to have a great not so boring life.
